challenge
The client wanted to reduce paper work related to engineering change management and make an error proof system in the engine assembly line. Also the sequence of the operations in assembly operations were not followed and leading to defect products in the assembly line.
solution
To improve the productivity of assembly operators and improve line efficiency, the paperless factory concept was introduced. The assembly operations related to the particular station are to appear just before the engine reaches the station, with details such as parts, part numbers and subassemblies etc. To make workers understand the sequence easily, the animated color graphics appear on the station screen to show complete assembly operation.
results
With this, the operator in the assembly line, able to reduce the errors in the assembly line and rework reduced, manual reading reduced drastically and color coding system eliminated fitting wrong components to the engine. Overall rework reduced, few stoppages in the assembly line, worker productivity improved drastically and cycle time reduced. We completed this project for client 8 plants across North America and Europe.
